WOMEN’S DIVISION

CANNINGTON BRANCH A very enjoyable evening was spent by the many present at the annual function of the Cannington Women’s Division. . During the first part of the evening three one-act plays were presented to a very appreciative audience. Members of the drama circle of the Maungati Women’s Division presented “Rabbits,” the following players taking part: Mrs L. Marshall, Miss D. McManus, Mr J. Collier, and Mr G. Dale, and “There’s Money Coming to You,” the players being: Miss Betty Smith, Miss Collier, Mr G. Dale, Mr J. Collier, Mr T. L. Dale and Mr C. Manus. “Pro's and Con’s” was presented by members of the drama circle of the Cannington branch, those taking part being: Mrs W. Little, Miss Sheila Howell, Miss Mai Scott and Mr B. H. Howell. An orchestra supplied the music for the dance which followed, assisted with extras by Mr C. Lamb on the bagpipes. The prize for the lucky spot waltz was won by Miss Norma Williams and Mr P. Brosnahan, and for “first on the oor.” by Miss McDonald and Mr A. Evans, and a Monte Carlo one step by Mrs B. Howell and Mr R. Howell. The winners of a waltzing competition were Miss McManus and Mr Routledge, and Mrs VI. Little and Mr V. Sullivan. Those present were: Mr and Mrs B. H. Howell, Mr and Mrs G. HAZELBURN BRANCH Spring flowers and blossoms decorated the Hazelburn School last Thursday for the third birthday afternoon of the Hazelbum branch of the Women’s Division. There was a large attendance of members and visitors. Mrs Shires (president) extended a welcome to all and wished all a happy time. The programme was as follows: Pianoforte solo, Miss M. O’Connell; community singing led by Mrs Cliff; pianoforte solo, Miss H. Mouat; song, Mrs Cliff; pianoforte solo, Miss R. Pelvln. Before presenting the year’s competition prizes, Mrs Cliff was presented with a beautiful bouquet in recognition of her services to the branch. The winners of competitions were:— Miss H. Mouat 1, Miss E. Glennie 2, Miss N. Watkins 3. The Pleasant Point Women’s Institute Drama Circle then presented a play entitled “The Great Dark.” A "treasure hunt” was won by Mrs Cliff, senior, and Miss E. Glennie, junior. Afternoon tea was followed by the president cutting the birthday cake, which was made by Miss Shires and decorated by Mrs H. Blackler. piece of cake was sent to a sick member, Miss Jean Howden. A splendid display of handcrafts was exhibited. During the afternoon opportunity was taken to make a presentation to Miss Shires (president), Mrs White (treasurer), Mrs Mouat (advisory member) and Miss M. O’Connell (secretary) in appreciation of their work and interest in the branch.
