TIMARU T.C.

MEETING OF COMMITTEE A meeting of the committee of the Tlmaru Trotting Club was held yesterday. Present: Messrs J. Hole (chairman), M. H. Richards, T. W. Munro, W. Quirke, J. Gilmore, W. Connelly, and G. T. Wardell. A letter was received from the Department of Internal Affairs stating that it had been found desirable to lay down definite rules as to the display of dividends and provision for the different units of investment on the totalisator. It had been decided (1) that at all totalisator meetings reasonable provision must be made for both 10/- and £1 investors, and tickets for both these denominations made available. It would be open to clubs to provide for larger Investments according to requirements. (2) That the main dividend display at the totalisator must be for £1 and the dividend displayed on the semaphore for the same unit. These decisions were to apply to both racing and trotting clubs Many clubs already carried out the procedure, and the matter resolved itself into one of bringing the remaining clubs into line. It was decided to meet the committee of the South Canterbury Jockey Club to discuss the question of the running of the totalisator more especially as to the win and place. At the request of the Tlmaru A. and P. Association, it was decided to make the customary donation to the Association’s funds. Sub-Committees

Ussher; hon. vet. surgeons, Messrs W. Smith and C. H. Williamson. Classic Races

The programme committee reported that it had gone into the question of classic races for the future, and recommended that entries be taken for the 1938 Nursery Stakes and 1939 New Zealand Trotting Stakes, and that the prize money be the same for each race as for the 1937-1938 races. A new clause was recommended to be placed in each race as follows: "Owners of horses whose gait has been changed since nomination may, on payment of forfeits in this race, renominate into either race.”

The report was adopted. In connection with the New Zealand Trotting Stakes, 1938, it was decided to write to each nominee asking if he would be agreeable to allow nominators in the Nursery Stakes to renominate into the 1938 Trotting Stakes, on payment of forfeit, in the event of the gait of a horse being changed.
