Colonel Roscoe Turner, who was flying from the Pacific Coast to lew York, crashed near Gallup (New Mexico). He suffered two broken ribs and wrenched his back. The craft was destroyed. Dr. Dalton, captain of the Benoni Light Plane Club, collapsed and died while flying over the Rand. He had taken up two passengers, Miss Atwiil (16) and Mr Druger, who when at 3000 feet saw Dr. Dalton lurch sideways. The machine, out of control, flew wildly in circles. Druger, though he had only nine hours’ flying experience, managed to push Dalton’s body aside and effected a forced landing. Druger was unhurt. The girl caped with bruises and the plane was slightly damaged.
