PORT OF TIMARU

LATEST ADVICES The Shaw, Savill and Albion vessel Zealandic continued loading for Home yesterday and is expected to sail this evening for Port Chalmers. The Federal steamer Surrey was to leave Bluff at 6 o’clock last night for Timaru and is due this afternoon to load for London and Southampton. She is to sail on Thursday for Wellington. The Homelea is scheduled to load for Wellington, New Plymouth and Waikato to-day. She is due from Dunedin and should get away for Lyttelton later in the night. Cape Horn En Route The freighter Cape Horn, in the Union Company’s transpacific cargo service, left Los Angeles last Sunday. She is due at Auckland on September 14, at Wellington on September 18, and, after calling at Lyttelton, Dunedin, and Bluff, will proceed by way of Melbourne, Sydney and Fiji to Vancouver. A Busy Port The shipping and cargo returns for the port of Wellington show a further Improvement during the month of July as compared with July of last year. The shipping arrivals were 315,639 net tons, as against 305,114 net tons, an increase of 10,525 tons. The cargo handled amounted to 168,582 tons, which Is 26,785 tons greater than last year’s figure for the corresponding period. The quantity of cargo imported from English and foreign ports increased by 9606 tons, and the cargo from coastal and Australian ports by 3373 tons. Exports were higher by 10,146 tons, the principal increase being in frozen meat, butter, and wool, all of which show an improvement. Personal Captain S. E. Gaskin has taken command of the Kaimai, relieving Captain T. S. Mac Nicol for orders.
