Catholic bishops sent Herr Hitler a copy of a Pastoral Letter which is being read in the churches throughout Germany on August 30, appealing to allow the Church to co-operate with the Government in “fighting the ever increasing threat of world Bolshevism, whLh shows a sinister hand in Spam, Russia and Mexico. Guns are not enough to fight the danger. A sound lead is needed in order to ensure victory.”

REPLY TO PASTORAL LETTER

NAZIS’ CONCILIATORY ATTITUDE United Press Association—By Electric Telegraph—Copyright (Received August 30, 6.30 pan.) BERLIN, August 29. Indicating the Nazis’ desire to conciliate the Catholics, Herr Hitler intervened and suspended the trial of the priests charged with currency offences. This is believed to be due to the Pastoral Letter which will be read in all Catholic churchs on August 30, protsting against the anti-Catholic measures in Germany and demanding a common front against Bolshevism. “The National Zeitung” takes the unusual step of publishing the text of the letter.

In a farewell address to leaders of the German colony in Paris, Dr. Schache (Nazi Minister of Germany), said: “I believe I have found full appreciation here of the fact that a FrancoGerman understanding is necessary for world peace. I leave impressed with France’s honest determination to open the way for international peace. The greatest disturbing factor to-day is violent Bolshevik propaganda. The Bolshevising of Russia would require little attention if it had not developed an international tendency.”
