AUSTRALIAN RACING

KINNOULL DISAPPOINTS WARWICK FARM MEETING United Press Association —By Electric Telegranh Coovrlght SYDNEY, August 29. Gold Rod started the season brilliantly to-day by the winning the Hobartville Stakes at Warwick Farm with the ease of a super colt. Although not fortunately placed at the barrier, M. McCarten took him to the front as soon as the field settled down. Gold Rod opened up a lead of half a dozen lengths and won easing up by two and a half lengths. Custos was in the picture to the turn, finishing in fourth i place, but he ran less impressively than the place getters, Shakespeare and Bobby. Rob Roy came from the tailend of a strung out field to finish ninth. Talking, who is a Magpie colt from the New Zealand mare Society, downed many good weight-for-age competitors in the Warwick Stakes. Cuddle stayed with Talking in the lead to the turn where Talking drew away and won very comfortably from the veteran Queenslander, Lough Neagh, who beat Cuddle by two and a half lengths. Sylvandale, who was a close fourth was doing as well as Cuddle at the finish. Silver Ring raced sluggishly and was always near the rear, while Kinnoul, who was much fancied, was somewhat of a disappointment, finishing ninth behind Allunga, Journal and Sarcherie. Peter Pan’s half brother, Brazilian, was second in the Farm Novice Handicap in which Hands Up and the Athenian were unplaced. Brazilian made a game effort to equal the performance of Peter Pan who in 1932 dead heated with Babili in this race. Both Peter Pan and Brazilian having been sparingly raced as two-year-olds. In to-day's race Brazilian made up a great deal of ground but was unable to overtake the winner Tucker Box, who led all the way. The Athenian shaped poorly. finishing tenth. Several New Zealanders took part in the Campbelltown Handicap, which was well won by the Heroic horse The Marne from the speedy Heroic mare, Cereza, with Silver Streak third. On Parade finished fourth and Sporting Blood fifth. Love Song had its first and last race over the jumps in the August Hurdles. Losing i v s rider at the first hurdle, it continued on and finally crashed into the wing of another and was killed. The chief results were;
