GOOD PIPING
SUCCESS OF TIMARU CONTEST COMPETITIONS CLOSE With past and present Dominion champions competing a very high standard was reached in the piping section of the annual competitions conducted by the South Canterbury Centre of the New Zealand Piping and Dancing Association. Piping events have always been associated with the competitions, but this year increased Interest resulted in a record piping entry and the whole of Saturday was devoted to the contest. There was keen public interest at the Little Playhouse until late on Saturday night when the last class was decided. Seventy entries were received, competitors being present from as far away as Invercargill and Christchurch. The classes were keenly contested and in addition to good performances by pi; ers who have faced judges on many '•casions, there were many of the younger school who showed considerable promise. The judge, Mr W. Cargo, of Seadown, was well pleased
with the standard. The competitions generally have grown from year to year and the piping section undoubtedly contributed materially to the success of the 1936 fixture.
