GERALDINE

BOWLING CLUB A SUCCESSFUL YEAR A very satisfactory season was disclosed at the annual meeting of members of the Geraldine Bowling Club, held in the secretary's office on Thursday evening. The president (Mr J. H. Woolhouse) presided over a fair attendance. New Pavilion Fund The president’s report stated that the Club had had a most pleasant and successful season. Unfortunately, owing to the weather conditions, the playing had not been so consistent as usual, and, consequently the members had not been able to play the friendly games which were so much enjoyed by all bowlers. The green had been well maintained, and it had been in excellent order when the weather conditions were good. The Club had entered a four-rink team in the South Canterbury Bowling Centre’s competition, and the games had been very much enjoyed. Messrs G. Loach and A. J. Burmester had represented the Club in the match for the Steans Cup. Good entries had Loen received for the Club competitions, but, unfortunately, owing to the wet weather some games had not been completed. If members so desired they could finish those matches during the early part of the coming season. The membership had been fairly well maintained, and the financial position was satisfactory. Towards the end of the season a very successful social had been held in the Town Hall, with a result that £2O had been deposited in the Post Office Savings Bank, which, with the £7/10/grant from the Geraldine Sports Association, would make a good start towards the cost of erecting a new pavilion, which was very much needed. Much credit was due to the members of the Geraldine Ladies’ Bowling Club for the very profitable social and in the many other ways in which they had | assisted. The green had been top-dress- I ed and* was looking particularly well and prospects for the coming season appeared to be very good. The club’s thanks were due to Mr R. G. Sampson (Timaru), for his services as delegate to the South Canterbury Bowling Centre, to Mr M. Campbell the green steward, to Mr T. J. Paterson, as caretaker, for the good condition of the green in an unfavourable season, and also to the newspapers for their reports of the Club’s activities. In conclusion the president expressed appreciation of the loyal support of the committee, and trusted that similar support would be accorded to the new president by officials and members. In moving the adoption c-f the annual report, the president remarked that the finances were £5 better than at the previous annual meeting, which could be regarded as satisfactory.
