The Indian cricket team in the first innings of their match against Kent made 173, and in their second innings they have lost eight wickets for 137. Kent in their first innings made 523 (Fagg 172, Ames 145, Ashdown 117). CRITICISM OF ENGLISH BOWLER INTERESTING OBSERVATIONS United Press Association— Bj Electric Tel egra ph —Copy rig h t LONDON, August 26. “Coming at such a time Freeman’s criticism of Fames for his bowling against Kent, is more scandalous than disgraceful,” declares Mr Castor, secretary of the Essex Club. “I was present at the match and completely deny Freeman’s allegations of unfair bowling. Perhaps one answer to Freeman’s comment would be the pitiable display of some Kent batsmen against fast bowling the last time they met it.” Mr Wilcox, the Essex captain said: “In my opinion Fames bowled well and fairly.” The “Daily Mail’s” sporting gossip writer, says: “I have yet to watch a fast bowler who is not guilty of short bumpers sometimes, but the suggestion that Fames bumps five out of six is a gross exaggeration. Fames would not have been chosen for Australia if the selectors had noted the least cause of suspicion in his action.”
