MAX BAER WAS JUBILANT AT LOUIS’ K.O. DEFEAT
“I told you seven months ago that Schmeling would take Louis and I was right—wasn’t I?” With these words Max Baer, onetime heavyweight champion, greeted Denver sports writers after the big fight, as he stepped off on route by motor to San Antonio. Texas. Accompanying Baer were his manager, Ancil Hoffman, his brother. Buddy, and a young fighter, Douglas Kuhlman, former Oregon State College athlete. Max was fairly bubbling over with plans for annexing the heavyweight crown again, however vague may be his paths for the return to glory. Max thinks Schmeling will win over Braddock and by next June there may be another Schmeling-Baer fight, with Baer again champion.
