BOWLING
ASHBURY CLUB OVERDRAFT WIPED OUT The annual report of the Ashbury Bowling Club mentions the loss suffered by the club in the deaths of the patron, Mr H. Henriksen, and a sympathetic supporter, Mr T. W. Satterthwaite. Mr Henriksen was one of the oldest members and always took the keenest interest in the welfare of the club. He was one who might be called the corner stone of the foundation of the club. Sympathy was extended to Mrs Henriksen and family in their loss. It was fitting that the club should also place on record its appreciation of the kindly interest manifested by Mr T. W. Satterthwaite. He was always willing to assist whenever required and the club’s deepest sympathy went out to his widow and family in their loss. The club was opened in brilliant weather which continued right throughout the playing season. The brightness of the weather was reflected in the achievement of the club in wiping out its overdraft and finishing up the year with a credit balance. The season was declared open by Mr Satterthwaite, and all members of the chip, visiting clubs and .the Ladies’ Club spent a very enjoyable afternoon. Competitions The club entered two teams of four rinks in the Centre’s competitions, and all games participated in were thoroughly enjoyed. The club was represented at the champion of champions by W. Farrow (singles), N. Hamlyn (s), E. Darroch, J. W. Stevenson, E. J. Ellis (rinks), and A. Clark (s), A. Manning (doubles) and these players acquitted themselves well and did credit to the club. The club competitions resulted: —Senior championship, N. Hamlyn; junior championship, E. Scales; rinks, E. Darroch (s), E. Henshaw, W. Turner, E. Scales; doubles, C. Johnson (s), C. Shaw; Manning Cup, A. Richards; Chilcott Cup, J. Hardie; Davey Cup, A. Richards; colts, M. Walls. Three very successful tournaments were held during the year. The support of the other local clubs was in no small measure responsible for making the functions a success. Thanks The thanks of the club were due to members’ wives for catering and to the members of the Ladies’ Club who assisted at the card evenings held during the winter. The membership totalled 43 playing members and nine honorary members, a considerable increase on the figures for the previous season. The executive wished to thank all who rendered service to the club, the club’s delegate on the Centre, the donors of trophies, the greenkeeper for keeping the green in playing order, and the local newspapers.
