SALMON FRY
MIGRATION TO THE SEA Residents of the Milford Lagoon and visitors to the locality report the appearance, -luring the last few days, of a shoal of young salmon, evidently on their way to sea. The mouth of the river is at present well down the bar toward its northern end, and the young fish, known as parr, have evidently experienced difficulty in finding the outlet. Mr F. W. Pellett, curator of the South Can erbury Acclimatisation Society, stated that the parr were from last year’s spawning and that after a year in the headwaters of the river they came downstream. Generally they were from nine to 15 inches long when they migrated to the sea.
