DRAINAGE SYSTEM

SCHEME FOR ST. ANDREWS A proposal to provide a drainage system for the St. Andrews township will be before the Waimate County Council at its next meeting. The matter has been before the Health Department for some time, but has come into the forefront with the burning down of the St. Andrews Hotel and the prospect of a new hotel being erected. It is stated that with the township so close to the sea it would not entail undue expenditure to run a pipe from the township to the sea, and that in any case the proposal is well worth investigation. In the event of a drain being laid down, it would also be available to private residences. It should also encourage building, as it is understood that the absence of a drainage system has been instrumental in dissuading several persons from erecting houses in the town.
