MEETING OF MANAGEMENT COMMITTEE A meeting of the Management Committee of the South Canterbury Association was held last evening, Mr A. W. Stead presiding. The Geraldine Sub-Association wrote that the date offered for their tournament was not suitable, and suggesting September 5. It was decided to reply that the date was not suitable on account of the representative fixture with Otago, and September 19 was suggested instead. The chairman reported on the Rata v. Winchester game, pointing out that Rata Club had arranged to forfeit the game and had then gone to Winchester to play, consequently the Winchester team was not at full strength and had lost the match. After discussion, it was decided to award > the game to Winchester by default. The men’s senior and junior competitions were closed, and South End declared the winners in both grades, the senior team being given permission to endeavour to arrange the first Walker and Hall shield game with Waimate for Saturday at Timaru. The secretary was instructed to write to the Canterbury Association offering to arrange a match with a secondary schools team at Timaru on September 5. The chairman reported on the visit to Timaru of Mr A. Stonyer, who had attended the recent hockey conference held in Wellington, and who had delivered a concise report on the proceedings. The conference had been most successful, and the thanks of the Association were due to Mr Stonyer for his assistance. The Timaru Club was granted permission to enter in the junior section of the six a-side tournament. At the conclusion of the meeting, best wishes were extended to the South Canterbury team which will leave on Thursday to take part in the New Zealand championships at Blenheim.
