MORE SEVERE PENALTIES FOR FRAUD By Telegraph Press Association GREYMOUTH, August 22. At the Magistrate’s Court, Peter James Duncan (35), was admitted to probation for a year, after pleading guilty to obtaining £7 4s from the Labour Department by falsely representing that two children were living with and being maintained by him. Detective-Sergeant Knight said the Department wished it to be generally known that similar offences were becoming prevalent and it would in future press for a penalty. Mr H. Morgan, S.M., stated that in future offenders would find is difficult to obtain probation.
