PETIT FILS WINS AT WILLIAMSTOWN
United Press Association—By Electric Telegraph—Copyright (Received August 23, 6.30 p.m.) MELBOURNE, August 23. At the Williamstown races yesterday, following was the result of the UNDERWOOD STAKES. Petit Fils, 9.1 (Preston) .. .. . . .. 1 Valiant Chief, 9.0 (K. Voitre) 2 Young Idea, 9.0 (Skidmore) 2 Twelve startedj including Prince Quex. Won by a head, two lengths between second and third. Valiant Chief appeared to have the race won when Petit Fils, who was finishing brilliantly along the rails, just got up. The winner was excellently handled by Preston, who had three wins for four mounts during the afternoon. Remission was unplaced in the steeplechase. Barnum was unplaced in the August Handicap.
