DEAREST LITTLE PEOPLE:

‘•Spring!” sang the thrush from my flowering prunus. “Spring is here! Spring is there! Spring! Spring is everywhere!” He continued to proclaim his exciting news so eagerly and importantly that he did not see the shadowy shape crouching at the foot of his tree. “Don’t spring!” I shouted; and Michael lazily stretched and agreed that the thrush Was rather far above his head, and it was Much too warm a morning for strenuous exercise. “How could you think of harming the bearer of such good tidings?” I asked him. “Not that I didn’t know Princess Spring was here already—but still, it is most agreeable to be constantly reminded that blossom-time is here once more and all the world feels young again.” These remarks were evidently too much for Michael, who yawned rudely and curled up on a bed of fragile hyacinths, from where he was indignantly chased. Pool* Michael! He glared at me resentfully and then climbed over the fence in search of Smoki, to whom he probably confided that the Spring air certainly Did Not agree with Some People! —As for me, I carefully picked the lovely flowers our naughty Mascot had crushed and then wandered slowly round my garden before returning indoors to write to you. —Yes, the thrush had made no mistake. The little green and golden Princess that men call Spring had been into every corner of my garden. Here a primrose smiled at me; there a jonquil unfolded scented petals; jauntily the kowhai flung wide his golden cloak; and shyly the prunus hid beneath her veil of blossom. When I came indoors and was putting my hyacinths in a vase on my desk I suddenly realised that it was quite time we began thinking of Spring-in-our-Page. September is the loveliest Spring month of all, s 0 let us give the green and golden Princess an enormous welcome in our Page four Saturdays from now. Holidays are just beginning, so you should have plenty of time to think of stories and poems, and perhaps make some pictures, too. These holidays come at the very best time for pottering in your gardens. Let me know if you do any planting or weeding, won’t you. Lots of Love and Thimbles, fc-// tC* J I JAVI I FROM YOUR OWN
