Lady Watson, widow of Sir William Watson, the last of the great Victorian poets, who died a year ago, aged 77, has been granted a civil list pension of £l2O. ‘ It is learned that Lady Watson intends to spend the rest of her life in South Africa. With her two daughters she will sail on August 22. The decision to leave England was made several weeks ago, when Lady Watson was informed in confidence of the amount of the civil list pension awarded to her. Aout six years ago a sum of nearly £4OOO was raised by an appeal signed by distinguished people in all walks of like. This and a civil list pension of £2OO enabled Sir William and his family to live in comfort. His last book was published in 1928. It brought in only £lO, and most of the copies were bought by his wife unknown to him.
