RABBIT POISON
OATMEAL AND STRYCHNINE POISON The following ingredients for rabbit poisoning are recommended by the Department of Agriculture are being used by the newly constituted Tekapo Rabbit Board. Bait Two 71b syrup tins of oatmeal. 2 cups of icing sugar. 2 tablespoons of salt. 2 teaspoons of cream of tartar. These quantities to be mixed at each time of baiting with the exception of cream of tartar which should be increased gradually with each baiting until the 2 teaspoons are mixed in ths final bait. Poison Bait Two 71b syrup tins of oatmeal. 4 cups of icing sugar. 2 tablespoons of salt. 1 ounce of strychnine. To mix, it is advisable to put all ingredients in a round bowl or basin with the exception of the strychnine which should be sprinkled in a little at a time and mixed by keeping thoroughly stirred. Every care should be exercised in this mixing to see that the strychnine is thoroughly distributed throughout the mixture.
To lay poison, draw a furrow and lay about a teaspoonful of the mixture every two or three feet. This poison can also be used to advantage while snow is on the ground by the drawing of a furrow through the snow ahd laying as set out above.
