GRIEVANCES AIRED
PIN-PRICKING ALLEGED By Telegraph Press Association WELLINGTON, August 10. As a result of dissatisfaction with the general working conditions at the Hutt Railway Workshops, a deputation waited on the General Manager of Railways, Mr G. H. Mackley, with a request that, in co-operation with the Unions, the Government should take action to stop pin-pricking methods employed by the management of the Hutt shops. Mr Mackley promised that the representations of the deputation would receive consideration. Interviewed regarding the allegations of victimisation of trade union officials and the pin-pricking methods employed by the management of the shops, Mr Mackley said: “I could find no evidence of pin-pricking. I believe the men themselves would agree that there is no such thing as pin-pricking in evidence in the management of the shops. I had a discussion with the representatives of the men and these discussions were entirely to the men and the management.” A meeting of the combined committees of the Amalgamated Society of Railway Servants and the Railway Tradesmen’s Association was held at Lower Hutt to-day, when a motion was carried unanimously expressing appreciation of the prompt and able manner in which the general manager had dealt with the workshops trouble.
