WOMEN’S DIVISION

SOUTHBURN BRANCH In Mr W. Bell’s granary, which was gaily decorated with streamers and greenery, the second birthday party of the Southburn Branch of the W.D.F.U. was celebrated. The evening was spent in dancing intermingled with vocal items by Mrs Turner, Miss Bennett, Mr D. Chamberlain and Master Russell Murray. Before a bounteous supper was served the birthday cake, the gift of the president, was brought in to musical honours. At this junction Mrs A. Ward welcomed the visitors and hoped that everyone present would have an enjoyable time. The candles were then lit by the oldest member, Mrs Myers and blown, out by the youngest, Hazel Murray. Previous to cutting the cake Mrs B. E. Evans (provincial president) in a happy speech congratulated the branch on attaining it second birthday and hoped the good work would be carried on. Opportunity was taken to present Mrs Evans and Mrs Ward with posies. Novelty dances were won as follows. Lucky spot, Mr and Mrs C. Black. Monte Carlo, Miss M. Evans and Mr H. Gibson. First up couple, Miss E. Kinross and Mr G. Thompson. Amongst the many present were: Mr and Mrs B. E. Evans, Mr and Mrs A. Ward, Mr and Mrs N. Bell Mr and Mrs Robt. Parry, Mr and Mrs Myers, Mr and Mrs C. Ward, Mr and Mrs Fleming, Mr and Mrs Rupert Parry, Mr and Mrs A. Kinross, Mr and Mrs J. Gibson, Mr and Mrs O. F. Bishop, Mr and Mrs Murray, Mr and Mrs L.
