THE LAND TAX
PROTEST ENTERED By Telegraph;—Press Association ’ WELLINGTON, August 10. At a special general meeting of the. Wellington Chamber of Commerce, called to discuss the Government’s proposals regarding graduated taxation on land, the following resolution was passed unanimously: “This meeting of Wellington mechants, manufacturers, traders and others protests against the proposed application of a graduated land tax to urban land, when such land is in full economic use, and requests Associated Chambers of Commerce to bring the protest before the Government.” The meeting was in committee, but a statement issued later indicated that the general opinion was that the incidence of the tax would create hardship. and probably lead to unemployment, because of the heavy burden on large commercial firms.
