BOOKS FROM LIBRARY
FACILITIES FOR SUBSCRIBERS Stating that he had been approached by a country resident, who considered that he was handicapped in partaking of the benefits of the Timaru Library, because lie could secure only one book at a time, the Mayor (Mr P. C. Vinnell) at last night’s meeting of the Timaru Borough Council, asked the chairman of the Library Committee (Cr. W. G. Tweedy) to clarify the position, Cr. Tweedy explained that there were two classes of users of the library, residents of the borough, who had free facilities, and borrowers outside the borough who paid an annual subscription of 10/- or a monthly subscription of 2/-. Either payment entitled that class of borrower to the facilities enjoyed in the town. A borrower was entitled to take three books—one free with his card and two others for the payment of 3d for each book. The Mayor said he hoped that any misunderstanding would be cleared Up. It was desirable to assist the country people to enjoy all the facilities of the library.
