ONE BIG UNION PROPOSAL British Official Wireless WELLINGTON, July 27. After a long discussion on a sugges tion that- the Institute should participate in the formation of one big union of railwaymen, the delegates at the annual conference of the New Zealand Railway Officers' Institute defeated the proposal by an overwhelming majority. In a statement issued to-night, it was stated that the present arrangements, by which the several railway organisations united in the advocacy of matters of common interest, satisfied the present requirements of the service and at the same ttes ensured to each unit the advantages of dealing with the special circumstances of its own members Mr E. W Barnes was elected president.
