WEDDINGS

PATRICK—SMART A pretty wedding took place at the Presbyterian Church, Geraldine, when Ruby, only daughter of Mr and Mrs A. E. Smart, Waitohi, was married to Winton, fourth son of Mr J. Patrick and the late Mrs Patrick, Hilton. The Rev. W. J. Couling performed the ceremony and Mr Davies presided at the organ. The bride, who was escorted by her father, wore a becoming frock of peach georgette. The bodice with bell sleeves was made with gathered neckline and finished at the waist with a wide sash. The skirt, made with six fully flared godets, was finished with a deep gathered frill. Her long tulle veil worn off the face was clasped by a circle of orange blossom and she carried a shower bouuqet of chrysanthemums, white heather and maidenhair fern with a silver horseshoe attached. The bridesmaid, Miss Irene Goodeve, Makikihi, cousin of the bride, wore a frock similar to the brides and a head band of peach, blue and lemon flowers. She carried a sheaf of autumn tinted chrysanthemums. Mr Stuart Patrick was best man. After the ceremony a reception was held at the Masonic Hall. The bride’s mother received the guests wearing a frock of blue crepe silk under a black coat with black hat. Mrs S. Cunningham sister of the bridegroom wore a black and lemon frock under a tweed coat with lemon hat. For travelling the bride wore a brown ensemble under a brown coat with brown hat. MCFARLANE—BARBER Chrysanthemums in bronze and autumn leaves made a pretty setting at the Presbyterian Church, Morven, for the marriage of Marion Margaret, only child of Mr and Mrs E. T. Barber and Andrew Wilson, only son of Mr and Mrs J. McFarlane, Morven. Miss Alice Bell attended as bridesmaid. The bride, who was escorted by her father, wore an attractive gown of parchment satin. The train shirred into the waist was caught half-way down in bouffant effect. Her veil of tulle was arranged to the head with a circlet of orange blossom and she carried a sheaf of longiflorum lilies and bouvardias. The bridesmaid’s frock was of apple green crepe silk ninon, the rucked panel of the skirt falling in cascade effect and formed a train, and she wore a bandeau of gold leaves in her hair. Her bouquet was of lemon chrysanthemums with gold streamers. Mr Andrew Paul was best man and Mr Sydney Blair and Mr H. Matthews were the ushers. Mrs W. McFarlane sang the solo “Dawning” while the register was being signed. A reception was held after the ceremony in the hall which had been elaborately decorated with chrysanthemums, greenery, streamers and Chinese lanterns, while bowls of roses and spring flowers were used for the table decorations. Mrs Barber wore a nigger brown crepe satin frock and a brown coat with skunk collar, and brown fur felt hat. She carried a bouquet of amaryllis and bouvardias. Mrs McFarlane, the bridegroom’s mother, wore cinnamon brown silk, brown velour hat and skunk furs. Her bouquet was of bronze abutilor- and roses. The bride travelled in a brown wool matalasse frock, pretty coloured tailored coat with brown velvet trimmings and brown velvet toque. The future home of Mr and Mrs A. W. McFarlane will be at Gray’s Corner, Morven.
