QUEEN MARY DELAYED BY FOGS United Press Association—By Electric Telegraph—Copyright (Received June 11, 5.5 p.m.) LONDON, June 10 Fog held up the Queen Mary in the Channel. The vessel anchored off Cherbourg at 9.15 a.m. The official time from the Ambrose Light to Cherbourg was 4 days 15hrs. 15min.» and the average speed 28.74 knots. The Queen Mary entered Southampton docks at 3.15 p.m. She was beautifully handled. The first passengers disembarked within fifteen minutes. At Cherbourg over 200 of the Queen Mary’s passengers were disembarked states a British wireless message. For the third time on her crossing the Queen Mary was delayed in the Channel by fog. The distances covered in each twenty-four hours were 621 miles, 619 miles, 670 miles, 679 miles and 549 miles. The liner was given a great welcome by the thousands who gathered to see her berth. The liner Queen Mary, which left New York on her first west to east Atlantic crossing on Friday last, had 1855 passengers on board. She passed Ambrose Light at 6 p.m. (British summer time). The record time for the journey from this point to Bishop’s Rock (Scilly Isles) is 4 days 3hrs 23min. established by the Normandie, and to beat that record the Queen Mary had to reach Bishop’s Rock before 9.28 p.m. on Tuesday.
