MINISTER INJURED
MR W. M. HUGHES IN AEROPLANE CRASH United Press Association—By Electric Telegraph—Copyright (Received June 11, 11.50 p.m.) BRISBANE, June 11. A private Monospar aeroplane, which was conveying Mr W. M. Hughes, Federal Minister of Health, and another passenger from Sydney to Brisbane today, was forced to land at Beaudesert, 47 miles from Brisbane, owing to bad weather and bad visibility. Mr Hughes suffered a broken collarbone and severe shock. The pilot and the other passenger were unhurt. A wing and the undercarriage of the machine were broken. Mr Hughes a few weeks ago was injured in a car accident. The ’plane was piloted by J. McLachlan. He had to fly blind for over an hour, and in landing a wing of the machine struck a fence. Mr Hughes was taken to hospital, but he is thankful for his miraculous escape.
