CONDITIONS IN TIMARU Splendid weather again favoured Timaru yesterday, when conditions were sunny and clear after a heavy frost. Records at the Timaru Park yesterday were:— Barometer—3o.3l. Max. temp.—so. Mln. temp, on grass—23.B. Frost—B.2 degrees. Wind—Calm. Rainfall—Nil. Rainfall to date this year—l6.26ins. Rainfall to date last year—lo.osins. Sunshine—B hours. Sunshine to date this year—77B.9hrs. IN OTHER CENTRES Christchurch—The weather yesterday was sunny, fine and fresh after seven degrees of frost. The maximum temperature 48.2 degrees. A light SW wind in the morning gave way to a light WSW breeze in the afternoon. The barometer rose slowly to 30.40 in. Geraldine: Air temperatures, minimum 27, maximum 51, at 9 a.m. 40. Frost, 8 degrees. Bright and fine with keen easterly wind. Temuka: After a frost of 11 degrees the weather was fine and sunny with a decided nip in the air. The maximum temperature was 42 degrees and the minimum 21. The glass was rising late last evening. Waimate (24 hours ended 9 a.m. yesterday): Barometer, 30.50 (steady); thermometer, highest 52.7, lowest 29.3; frost, 10 degrees; wind gauge, miles run in the previous 24 hours—so; bright sunshine, 8 hours 20 minutes. Yesterday was bright with a cold wind blowing from the south. Dunedin: Glorious weather prevailed yesterday with not a cloud in the sky and a genial temperature for this time of the year. A very light north-east breeze prevailed. Barometer was high and fairly steady at 30.45iu. DOMINION METEOROLOGIST (Forecast at 4 p.m. yesterday) General situation—A rather intense anti-cyclone now covers New Zealand, while a shallow depression has advanced on to the western Tasman Sea. Winds—Southerlies or south-easter-lies prevailing from Canterbury northwards, force mainly light to moderate but strong in some exposed positions. Decreasing generally to-night, light to moderate northerlies south of Canterbury and extending to beyond Cook Strait within 24 hours.
, Seas (New Zealand waters)—Rough at first between Kaikoura and East Cape and in the South Taranaki Bight, but moderating, elsewhere slight to moderate.
Eastern Tasman Sea —Light to moderate and variable winds but northerlies gradually prevailing, seas slight to moderate. Weather—Some light passing showers at first on the East Coast between Cape Palliser and East Cape, otherwise fine. Unsettled conditions again setting in to-morrow in the far south; temperatures cold with some sharp frosts and a few morning fogs.
