DEATH OF MISS BRUCE CHARITABLE BEQUESTS By Telegraph—Press Association AUCKLAND, June 10 A number of bequests to missionary and kindred religious objects are provided for in the will of Miss B. H. C. M. Bruce, probate of which has been granted by the Supreme Court. Miss Bruce's death occurred on April 14 at the age of 89, and her estate has been valued at £17,000. She was a member of a pioneer Rangitikei family and her passing severed a link with Sir Walter Scott, as her mother was the Mrs Cunninghame referred to in Lockart’s account of Scott’s life. Bequests of £250 each are made to the South American Mission Society, to the Sudan United Mission, to the Regions Beyond Missionary Union, to the Zenana Bible and Medical Mission and to the British and Foreign Bible Society. There are also two bequests of £lOOO each, one to the Aged and Infirm Ministers’ Fund of the Presbyterian Church of New Zealand, and one to infirm missionaries’ fund if there is such a fund or, failing that, to the Presbyterian Church Property Trustees to form the nucleus of a fund for establishing a building for the benefit of retired missionaries. The legacies to the last two charities are to be supplemented by a further £lOOO each out of the residue of the estate if there are sufficient funds, and any remaining money will go to the Scripture Gift Mission, London. These legacies are payable out of a fund set aside for producing annuities, and will not be payable until the death of the annuitants. The will also provides that certain debentures are to go to the Mildmay Mission to Jews.
