RACES IN SUNSHINE

TAILORED SUITS AND SMART HATS The Washdyke racecourse was looking its best on Saturday afternoon when the second day's racing of the winter meeting was held. The weather was fine and the course looked most picturesque with its background of green trees and snowy mountains. Tailored suits more than held their own and looked smart and trim. The hats for the most part were of felt but the angle at which they were worn showed the individuality of the wearer. Those present were:

Mrs Donald Grant, in a navy frock with collar and revers of stitched oyster satin and a blue felt hat. Mrs 0. L. Orbell, bottle green suit with canary yellow jumper and a wide green felt hat. Mrs E. G. Kerr, black cloth ensemble frogged with braid, the coat edged with black fur, and a black felt hat. Mrs Timaru Rhodes, navy frock with revers of white crepe-de-chene, a blue felt hat and black fox furs.

Mrs M. C. Harper, dark navy coat and skirt, mastic jumper and blue felt hat.

Mrs A. S. Elworthy, navy and grey slightly striped angora cloth ensemble three-quarter length coat, navy felt hat and cocoa brown fur.

Mrs Herbert Elworthy, blue frieze tweed coat and skirt, blue and red striped scarf and blue felt hat. Mrs J. C. Guinness, finely striped coat and skirt of light brown English suiting and a brown felt hat with feather mount.

Mrs F. L. Barker, light navy ensemble the coat having a collar of black Persian lamb, and a blue felt hat.

Mrs C. E. Thomas, finely striped black suit, worn with a black sealskin coat and black hat.

Mrs G. H. R. Ulrich, leaf green tweed coat and skirt with dark green hat.

Mrs W. T. Ritchie, black cloth coat with high collar of black Persian lamb, worn with a black frock relieved with oyster and a small black hat. Mrs G. Nichol, Ashburton, brown and white tweed coat and skirt, small brown hat and burnt orange scarf. Mrs H. F. Morton, blue flecked tweed suit, black velvet hat and musquash coat.

Mrs T. Irvine, bul-rush brown woven suit, fur necklet and brown felt hat.

Mrs G. R. Kingston, brown and white tailored check coat and skirt, brown jumper and stitched brown felt hat, worn with a short fur coat. Mrs J. E. P. Cameron, dark navy tailored suit and navy hat. Mrs L. E. Finch, brown tailored coat with high fur collar worn with a brown marocain frock and wide brown hat.

Mrs Alan Speight, Southland, logwood brown suit and hat. Mrs Napier. Waimate. grey suit and hat to match and silver fox furs. Mrs A. Tait, cherry coloured woven frock worn wieth a navy coat and hat.

Mrs R. Irving, beech brown suit with hat to tone.

Mrs A. E. Lawrence, beech brown flecked tweed suit, worn with a hiplength coat of fur and a brown hat.

Mrs J. W. Adams, brown cloth costume, worn with a deeper toned brown hat and a fur coat. Mrs F. M. Ward, brown flecked tweed suit with three-quarter length coat and a brown felt hat. Mrs F. W. D. Atkin, leaf brown coat and skirt and a brown felt hat. Mrs C. C. W. Haselden, black coat an skirt with white pin spot, black hat.

Mrs H. W. Hall, oyster and brown striped frock, fur coat and brown velour hat.

Mrs W. D. Campbell, sealskin coat worn over a black frock polka dotted with white and a black hat.

Mrs George Gould, Christchurch, raison coloured cloth frock with hat to match and tailored tweed coat. Mrs R. M. Innes, cinnamon tweed suit with vari coloured scarf and wide felt hat. Mrs Malcolm Miller, Wellington, marina blue coat with grey Persian lamb collar and a blue hat. Mrs H. Sinclair-Thomson, imperial blue coat and skirt with pale blue and dark blue striped scarf and a blue felt hat.

Mrs R. Sinclair, brown musquash coat worn with a tweed suit and brown velvet hat.

Mrs C. Kain, henna Harris tweed suit, grey fur necklet and grey felt hat. Mrs W. W. Garton, black coat worn over a blue frock and a black hat. Mrs H. E. D. Wilcox, stone-blue coat and skirt, taffeta blouse and black velvet hat.

Mrs H. Hay, wine coloured coat and skirt, fur necklet and brown felt hat. Mrs D. B. Shand, deep black tulip coat with high fur collar and hat to match.

Mrs Edward Elworthy, dark navy coat with black fur collar worn with a toning frock and hat.

Mrs O’Leary, black frock relieved with mushroom pink, sealskin coat and small black hat.

Mrs J. R. Mackenzie, Christchurch, brown marocain frock worn with a Canadian mink coat and small brown hat with eye veil.

Miss Janet Orbell, dark blue boucle suit with sealing wax red woollen jumper and blue felt hat. Miss Marion Cray mastic and brown tweed suit with brown felt hat. Miss Annette Orbell, brown frock and coat with darker brown felt hat with beige patent leather band. Miss Molly Orbell, blue diagonal tweed suit with hat to match.

Miss Marjorie Tait, mignonette green frock and hat worn with a brown and beige check coat. Miss Ivy Oliver, powder blue Harris tweed suit, felt hat to match. Miss Loo Cartwright, green and white check tailored coat and skirt with hat of’the material. Miss Mai Scott, russet Harris tweed coat and skirt. find fawn felt hat. Miss McQuilkin, Ashburton, blue frieze tweed belted costume, dark blue felt hat. Miss Mary Bridges, powder blue tweed coat and skirt, powder blue felt hat.

Miss Mary Mackenzie, marl tweed suit,, henna wool jumper and brown hat. Miss Enid Jones, resenda green suit and hat to match. Miss Ailsa Campbell, lime green frock and green hat with gold buckle. Miss Margaret Campbell, light navy coat worn with a light green frock and hat. Miss Enid Haselden. blue frock with red patent leather belt and blue stitched hat.
