CONDITIONS IN TIMARU A warm sun smiled on Timaru yesterday from a clear sky and conditions were perfect until the afternoon, when clouds appeared unexpectedly, bringing a few drops of rain. Bright sunshine, 8 hours. Yesterday was warm with a light nor’-east breeze. DOMINION METEOROLOGIST General Situation.—A series of westerly depressions is crossing New Zealand. An anti-cyclone is located to the north and another one extends across the Great Australian Bight on to south-eastern Australia. Winds.—Moderate to strong northerly to westerly winds of gale force at places in and south of Cook Strait, backing to south-westerly. Seas (New Zealand Waters).—Becoming rough south of Cape Egmont and about Cook and Foveaux Straits, elsewhere slight to moderate but rising offshore south of Castlepoint. Eastern Tasman Sea.—Westerly to south-westerly winds, moderate in the northern portion with moderate seas, strong to gale force in the southern portion with rough seas. Weather.—Unsettled in districts with a westerly aspect and in the far south with rain in many places and some heavy falls In Westland, fair at first In eastern areas, but later clouding over and scattered showers developing; temperatures becoming cooler tomorrow.
