LIFE-SAVING SOCIETY

A TIMARU GIFT At a meeting of the Canterbury Head Centre of the Royal Life Saving 'Society, presided over by Mr M. E. Lyons, a letter was received from Miss Audrey Holdgate, the Society’s District Representative in Timaru, enclosing a donation of £lO 15s from the Timaru Ladies’ Life Saving Club. Miss Holdgate reported that the money had been originally raised with the intention of securing a shield for life-saving competition in South Canterbury, but as the Club had gone out of existence there seemed to be little chance of its being used for this purpose. Rather than have the money lying idle indefinitely, it had been given on behalf of the Club to the Society to be used in whatever manner it thought fit in the interest of life-saving. On the motion of the chairman, seconded by Miss Doreen Brown, it was resolved to hold the money in trust until such time that it could be used to advantage to further the aims and objects of the Society in South Canterbury. The secretary was instructed to convey to Miss Holdgate the Society’s thanks and its regret that the Club had been wound up after such a promising beginning.
