CONDITIONS IN TIMARU From dawn to dusk the weather yesterday was perfect, bright sunshine and a cool easterly breeze combining to produce warm and pleasant conditions. The records at the Timaru Gardens yesterday were:— Barometer—3o.ol. Min. temp, on grass—s4.l. Wind—E.2. Rainfall—Nil. Rainfall to date this year—l.ssins. Rainfall to date last year—2.32ins. Sunshine—lo. 6 hours. Sunshine to date this year—l9l.2hrs. Maximum temp.—7l.2. IN OTHER CENTRES Ashburton— The sun shone brightly in Ashburton yesterday morning, and conditions were pleasant. The sky was slightly cloudy, and the heat of the sun was tempered. There was a light north-easterly breeze. Geraldine; Air temperatures, min. 64, max. 7(1, at 9 a.m. 70. Bright and fine, light south-east wind. Temuka— Yesterday was warm, with a cool, easterly breeze during the afternoon. The maximum temperature was 68 degrees and the minimum 44. Tlk> glass last evening was falling. Waimate (24 hours ended 9 a.m. yesterday) —Barometer, 30.20 (steady); thermometer, highest 73, lowest 481; wind gauge, miles run in previous 24 honurs, 41; bright sunshine, 7 hours 20 minutes. Yesterday was fine and warm, with a fresh N.E. wind.

DOMINION METEOROLOGIST General Situation—An anti-cyclone is centred east of New Zealand and another one covers south-eastern Australia, while a shallow depression is approaching across the Tasman Sea. Winds—Northerly, light to moderate at first but freshening about and south of Cook Strait, a southerly change setting in to-night in the far south and extending over the Dominion within the next 24 to 36 hours. Seas (New Zealand waters) —Slight to moderate but rising in Foveaux Strait and later also on the West Coast south of Cape Egmont. Eastern Tasman Sea.—Moderate northerly winds freshening in the southern portion, backing shortly to southerlies; seas slight to moderate but rain developing soon in the western and southern portions of the South Island and scattered falls later in eastern areas accompanying the southerly change. MR F. L. WOOLES Wind—Light to moderate easterly to northerly ruling. Weather—Continue fine and warm.
