The British Government has agreed to place the Discovery 11. at the disposal of the Commonwealth Government for a search for Mr Lincoln Ellsworth. The offer is dependent on a practicable scheme being devised here for the rescue of the expedition. A conference of leading officers of the Air Force and Civil Aviation branch will be held immediately, to determine the best type of aircraft to be shipped On the Discovery 11. It Is intended to despatch the vessel to the Bay of Whales, from which reconnaissance flights will be made to the point from which Mr Ellsworth’s last signals were heard. As soon as details have been arranged, a message will be sent to the President of the United States, notifying him of the intention to despatch the expedition. A North American Newspaper Allance copyright message says: “A spectacular flight to aid in the search for Mr Lincoln Ellsworth will start within a few days, according to an announcement by Mr F. Trubee Davison, president of the American Museum of Natural History, who has planned a relief expedition with the aid of Mr Stefansson and Captain Frank Hawks. An all-metal monoplane, a sister ship to Mr Ellsworth’s Polar Star, has been acquired. Captain Russell Thaw (pilot) and William Klenke (aeronautical engineer) will attempt to fly to Megallanes, within six days. There the aeroplane will be loaded on the Wyatt Earp, and used for establishing depots of supplies, or for whatever purpose she may be needed. In a statement, Mr Davison said that the preparations were not based in any definite belief that Mr Lincoln Ellsworth and N. Hiliier Kenyon were in serious difficulties, but they wish to get a powerful ’plane into action, before the suitable flying weather in the Antarctic ends.
