IN OTHER CENTRES Ashburton.—A light breeze from the south tempered the heat of the sun yesterday, and with the temperature not so high, the day was very pleasant. The sun shone in a blue sky with clouds. A shade temperature of 81 degrees was recorded on Wednesday. Waimate (24 hours ended 9 a.m. yesterday) : Barometer, 30.50 (steady); thermometer, highest 78.3, lowes 49; wind gauge, miles run in the previous 24 hours, 41; bright sunshine, 7 hours 25 minutes. Yesterday was bright and hot with a very light north-east wind. Geraldine. —Air temperatures, min. 57, max. 79, at 9 a.m., 72. Yesterday was bright and fine early, dull and overcast later, with a light southwesterly wind. Temuka.—Yesterday was warm and sunny, the temperature rising to 68 degrees in the shade, while the minimum was 54 degrees. There was a light southerly breeze at times. The glass last evening was still high. DOMINION METEOROLOGIST General Situation.—Pressure is Jtiigh and fairly uniform over the Tasman Sea and New Zealand, but a cyclone is centred to-day east of Bass Strait. Winds.—Light to moderate and variable mainly between north-easterly and south-easterly. Seas (New Zealand Waters) —Slight to moderate. Eastern Tasman Sea. —Light to moderate but later freshening north-east to east winds; seas moderate. Weather.—For the most part fine and warm but cloudy and misty at times with some isolated light rain in coastal areas, especially in the South Island. MR F. L.
