IN OTHER CENTRES Ashburton —The temperature reached 79 degrees in the shade on Tuesday afternoon, the highest since February 21, when 82.7 degrees was recorded. Conditions were similar yesterday. The sun shone in a cloudless sky, and the temperature was high again. Temuka—Maximum temperature yesterday was 77deg., and the minimum 52. The glass last evening was high. Waimate: (24 hours ended 9 a.m. yesterday) Barometer 30.40 (steady); thermometer, highest 78.1, lowest 53.5; wind gauge, miles run in previous 24 hours—so; bright sunshine, 10 hours 20 minutes. Yesterday was very hot with bright Sunshine, becoming cloudy in the late afternoon. DOMINION METEOROLOGIST General situation—Pressure Is very high over both New Zealand and Eastern Australia, with a shallow depression located over the Tasman Sea. Winds—Northerly or north-westerly predominating, strong about Cook and Foveaux Straits, elsewhere moderate, a change to southerlies setting in the far south by the morning. Seas (New Zealand waters)—Rough in the Cook and Foveaux Straits areas, elsewhere moderate. Eastern Tasman Sea—Light to fresh northerly winds changing to southerlies in the southern portion, seas moderate to rather rough. Weather —For the most part fair and warm, but increasing cloud and some scattered rains developing in Westland and the far south. HKF.L WOOLES Wind—Variable breezes. Weather—Continue fair and warm.
