LEVELS COUNTY
MONTHLY MEETING HELD GENERAL BUSINESS The monthly meeting of the Levels County Council was held yesterday. Present—Messrs T. B. Garrick (chairman), T. W. Brosnahan, J. E. P. Cameron, R. Munro, D. Grant, and R. G. Clelland. The chairman, in his statement, said that the debit balance at November 6 was £2218/12/10. During the month £363/6/- had been drawn, making a total debit of £2581/18/10. Receipts for the month were £568/14/5, and accounts to be passed totalled £953/17/10, leaving a debit as at December 4 of £2967/2/3. The chairman remarked that the position was a good deal better than at the corresponding period of last year. Crushing Plant Advice was received that the Main Highways Board was prepared to allow the Council to acquire crushing plant estimated to cost £I2OO, on certain terms under a hire purchase agreement. The chairman said that he thought they would have to hold the matter over for a time, much as he would like to secure the plant. Protective Work Approval was received from the Main iHghways Board for a stopbank at the Opihi and Opuha rivers on the Pleasant Point-Fairlie main highway. Irrigation Work Mr T. G. Beck, resident Public Works engineer, wrote asking authority to utilise a portion of the Council’s stock water race to enable the Public Works Department to get water over to the demonstration area this summer. The idea was to improve the carrying power of the Council’s main stock race from 'lie Opihi River down to the Kerrytown road. The necessary permission was granted. Donations The Council decided to grant £5 to the Timaru Plunket Society, £5 to the Pleasant Point branch of the Plunket Society, £2/2/- to the South Canterbury Health Camp Committee and £2/2/- to the Timaru Y.M.C.A.
