In view of the representations being made at the present time for the renovation a;.d improvement of the Timaru railway station, the following excerpt from a letter received by a Timaru businessman from a relative in Australia, is of interest: “I will always remember your drab looking station, which I should think an eyesore to all travellers,” says the letter, which was written nearly a year ago, before the question of improving railway facilities ’ arose. “I don’t know when I saw a more grubby station than at Timaru. You have a lovely bay, beautiful homes and picturesque places surrounding Timaru, but you are all too busy making money, or trying to, to take notice of the most important place—your station. I can quite understand no one wanting to send a postcard of your station; and yet the entrance going along the Bay is a picture. Then to come to such a dilapidated finish surprises most travellers. Why don’t you place a bomb under some of your Councillors and get them to make a suggestion to the Government?"
