MEAT FOR EXPORT
KILLING SEASON OPENS ON TUESDAY Killing operations for the meat export season in South Canterbury will be started at the Smithfield and Fareora freezing works next Tuesday morning, according to a decision made yesterday. It is expected that a skeleton chain will be engaged at each works until the prospects of stock coming forward are ascertained. The manager of one works stated that before the recent rains and cold spell, the lambs were developing well, and m fact were in a better condition than has been seen in the South Canterbury district for a number of years. However, the cold wet snap had probably set them back for a time, and if the present warm spell continued the stock should be in splendid condition by the time the works reached their maximum output. *
