IN OTHER CENTRES Ashburton—A real summer’s day, the first this season, was experienced in Ashburton yesterday, with the sun shining brightly in a clear sky. The temperature was high with the wind from the north-west, and at 2 o’clock in the afternoon the thermometer stood at 78.8 degrees in the shade. Geraldine—Air temperatures: minimum 54, maximum 78, at 9 a.m. 72. Wind, light north-westerly. Very warm sunny weather. Temuka—Yesterday was the warmest day experienced for some time, the temperature rising to 79 degrees in the shade while the minimum temperature was 48 degrees. The glass was falling last evening. Waimate —(24 hours ended 9 a.m. yesterday). Barometer 30.05 (falling slowly); thermometer, highest 65.9, lowest 52; wind gauge, miles run in the previous 24 hours—Bs; bright sunshine, 8 hours 45 minutes. Yesterday was bright and very hot. DOMINION METEOROLOGIST General situation—An intense anticyclone still lies over and east of New Zealand while a shallow depression located over the Western Tasman Sea is moving slowly eastward. Winds—Between north-east and north-west light to moderate generally at first, but increasing especially in and south of Cook Strait. Seas (New Zealand waters) —Rather rough north of East Cape, rough in the far south and south-west, elsewhere moderate. Eastern Tasman Sea —-Freshening northerly winds becoming strong in the southern portion, seas moderate, but rising in the south. Weather—Fair to fine generally at first and warm, but some scattered rains developing later on the West Coast and in the far south. MR F. L. WOOLES Wind—Moderate to fresh northerly. Weather—Continue fine and very warm.
