Some smokers will go on smoking the same old briar until the bowl is worn as thin as a sixpence, and is just saturated with nicotine. Odoriferous? Phew! When a pipe gets like that, scrap it and buy a new one. And there’s a whole lot in getting the right tobacco. Brands full of nicotine will soon age a pipe—yes, and age you, too! They’re hot safe. So when you buy the new pipe buy some really good tobacco —“toasted” for choice, because toasting (the manufacturer’s exclusive process) eliminates the nicotine. Then you’ll find that not only will the pipe last longer but you’ll enjoy your smoke as you have never done before. Toasting makes for health, and whether you smoke Cavendish or Navy Cut No. 3 (Bulldog)—both medium strength—or Cut Plug No. 10 (Bullshead, full flavour), you’ll never go back to the ordinary (untoasted) brands. Also, should you be a cigarette smoker there’s Riverhead Gold and Desert Gold —the two leading cigarette tobaccos. All the brands named are as good as they are safe
