CRICKET COMPETITION GOOD PERFORMANCES Two competition cricket matches were played at Manchester Park on Wednesday afternoon. Old Boys played a drawn game with Morven and Waimate A notched an eight point win against Glenavy. A feature of the first match was the high individual scores of G. Wilson Morven) 96 not out and R. Very creditable performances were recorded in each event, and several records were broken and equalled. Cochrane was the outstanding performer of the day, breaking four records and equalling one. The records broken were:— Senior Boys: O’Malley in the 380 yards equalled G. Hynes 1933 record of 2min 15 l-ssec. Junior Boys: A. Cochrane, in the 100 yards, equalled B. O’Malley’s 1934 record of 11 l-ssec. Cochrane ran 140 yards in 57sec, against W. Rendall’s 1932 time of 60 3-ssec; 880 yards in 2min 23sec, against W. Hosking’s time of 2min 29 3-ssec in 1933; 220 yards in 26 l-ssec, against B. O’Malley’s 27 l-ssec in 1934, and in the long jump jumped 16ft lliin against B. O’Malley’s distance in 1934 of 16ft sin. In the junior girls’ events, Joan Fraser broke M. Dash’s 1934 record of lift 6in, with a jump of 12ft 7in in the long jump. May Dennison equalled M. Dash’s 1934 100 yards record of 13 2-ssec.
