SPRING

(Held Over from Spring Page.) Spring, thy beauteous mantle is spread Around us, over all the earth . Myriad voices overhead Proclaim to all thy wondrous birth. Thy beauty everywhere meets the eye, Thy sweetness everywhere greets the ear, No human eloquence can try To tell all wonders of Springtime dear. Oh, earth, thy vernal loveliness, Thy purity, thy newness of life, Lead us on to deeds of kindness, And help us to forget all strife. Oh, songbird with your carol sweet, And also with your vespers, too, How you help us work to meet, How you help us the whole day through. Spring, as thy beauty to Summer grows, And as thy youth gives place to age. So do little tots, as time onward goes, Become the writers to our Page. (3 Marks and a Merit Card awarded to Colin Hewson, Blueclifls.) SPRING VOICES “Caw! caw!” says the crow, “Spring has come again I know, For sure as I am bom, There’s a farmer planting com. I shall breakfast there no doubt, Long before his com can sprout.” “Quack! quack!” says the duck, “Was there ever such good luck? Spring has cleared the pond of ice And the day is warm and nice. Just as I and Mr Drake Thought we’d like a swim to take!” “Croak! croak!” says the frog, As he leaps out of the bog. "Spring is near I do declare, For the earth is warm and fair. Croak! croak! croak! I love the Spring, When all the little birdies sing!” (Sent by Naomi Wixon, Temuka.)
