OBITUARY

MR ROBERT C. LITTLEJOHN A well-known and popular figure in South Canterbury business circles, Mr Robert Carr Littlejohn, died at his home yesterday after a brief illness. Mr Littlejohn, who was 53 years of age was born and educated in Milton and in his early youth joined the firm of R. Wilson and Coy., wholesale merchants, in Dunedin. He received a sound training during his service with the firm in Otago and in 1905 he was transferred to Timaru branch as country representative, a position which he held until his retirement on account of ill-health last year. During his 30 years’ association with the firm in this district, Mr Littlejohn through his genial personality and disposition, was held in esteem both by retail and wholesale and by his business associates. He took an active interest in the welfare of the Commercial Travellers’ Association and during the war was prominent in the Association's activities in collecting funds for patriotic purposes. During the depression he devoted much of his leisure time and his energies to organising community singing to raise funds for the relief of unemployment and other charitable objects. In his earlier years Mr Littlejohn was a keen footballer and when his playing days were over carried on with the whistle for a number of years. A keen Freemason, Mr Littlejohn also was a prominent member of Lodge Koranga, of which he was a Past Master. He was also a Past Provincial Grand Warden. On his retirement from R. Wilson and Coy., Mr Littlejohn entered business on his own account and conducted this up to the time of his death. He leaves a widow and two sons.
