A. AND P. ASSOCIATION MONTHLY MEETING The committee of the Waimate A. and P. Association met yesterday afternoon. Present—Messrs J. Brown (chairman), J. Mcßae, H. Brown, J. Dempsey, E. C. d’Auvergne. J. C. Hay, J. C. Faulkner, E. B. Harrison, A. W. Barnett, E. Stokes. D. Macdonald, H. B. L. Johnstone, H. J. C. Harper, J. I. Hayman, J. T. Hay, M. Mcßae, A. Medlicott, J. H. Milne, R. Sinclair, T. B. W. Hamilton. N. A. Rattray, C. C. Douglas, E. G. Hay, T. Hamilton and D. M. Gardiner. Mr D. Macdonald reported that the Stock Auctioneers’ Association had appointed three delegates to confer with delegates from the A. and P. Association in reference to the speedr ing up of the ram fair. The Stock Auctioneers’ delegates were Messrs Gunn, Tennant and Laurenson. The president stated that Mr Donald Grant, who had been appointed judge of the Border Leicester sheep glass, wished to exhibit at the Waimate Show. This had necessitated obtaining another judge, and he had got into touch with Col. Findlay of Ashburton, who had consented to act. The secretary reported that on learning that the Otago A. and P. Show was to be held on the same date as the Waimate Show, he had conferred with the president and forwarded a telegram protesting against the arrangement. After further communications the Otago Association notified that their show would be held on February 11 and 12. In forwarding the date of their show from November 27 to November 19, the Otago Association stated they had no idea they were interfering with the Waimate fixture. The action of the secretary was approved. The president welcomed Mr A. W. Barnett back to the committee after his illness. The Waimate Sheep Dog Trial Club wrote offering to give a challenge cup for competition at the dog trials at the Show. The president remarked that the trophy would help to stimulate interest in the dog trials and moved that a letter of thanks be sent to the club. The stationmaster wrote stating that train arrangements for Show Day would be the same as last year. Members remarked that the stock train arrived in Waimate inconveniently late and it was decided to ask the stationmaster to endeavour to make the time of arrival earlier, if only a few minutes. It was decided to ask Mr D. Kennedy to give a demonstration of judging dairy cattle to pupils of the Waimate High School taking part in the judging competition. Messrs W. Macauley, Kurow, Preece Bros., Waihao Downs, H. Bell, Grassy Hills, and S. J. Blair, Morven, were elected new members. Mr J. C. Hay said that the Association had guaranteed £5 to cover any loss which might result from the continuation of the wool classing classes at the Waimate High School. However, the classes had been so well attended that the Board of Governors were able to show a small credit balance, making any payment from the Association unnecessary. On the motion of Captain Rattray it was decided to send a letter of congratulation to the High School Board of Governors on their success. Question of a Booth. Mr Harper brought forward his notice of motion that a booth be provided at the show. This, he claimed, was a reasonable thing to do. He had seen no evidence at the Timaru Show that the privilege had been abused and did not think there would be any objectionable features in Waimate. Mr d’Auvergne, in seconding the moasserted that a booth in the grounds would help the Society greatly. Waimate was the only association in a licensed area which did not have a booth, and he had known potential new members who had refused to join up with the asociation on that account. He claimed that the Society was not progressing as it should and that the absence of a booth was one of the reasons. Mr Sinclair asked if it were not true that the application for a booth had been refused by the licensing committee. If so there was no use in going on with the discussion. After the information that the application for a provisional license had been declined had been confirmed, the motion was withdrawn. After considerable discussion on the arrangements for parking cars on show day, it was decided to appoint four paid men to attend to parking, with Mr Dempsey to assist Mr Geddes of the Automobile Association in supervision. A motion also went forward to the Automobile Association asking it in future to provide one of four paid men to attend to parking arrangements on show day. A motion to reduce the admission charges to the show for non-members was defeated. * BENEVOLENT SOCIETY The monthly' meeting of the Waimate Ladies’ Benevolent Society was held on Wednesday.
