The Mount Lyell Mining Company has advised t’ - Stock Exchange Association that a dividend of 6d a share in Australian currency has been declared out of profits resulting from operations other than mining for the year ended September 30. The net profits were £65,912 after writing off £61,672 for prospecting development and depreciation and £5012 for taxation.

SHARLAND AND CO., LTD. By Telegraph—Press Association WELLINGTON, November 7. The annual meeting of Sharland and Co. Ltd. was held to-day. Definite signs of a recovery in the wholesale pharmacy trade were reported, and the chairman, Mr A. E. Mabin, made brief reference to the possibility of the establishment of chemists’ chain stores in New Zealand, but the subject was not discussed. A net profit £837 higher than last year was shown, and after providing for the usual dividend of 5 per cent., income tax, depreciation and bad debts, there was left £1656, increasing the carry forward to £6128. The retiring directors and the retiring auditors in Auckland, Wellington and Dunedin were all re-elected. FOREIGN EXCHANGE RATE The Bank of New South Wales, Christchurch, quoted the following rates as ruling yesterday for its sales and purchases of foreign exchange.
