Instructions received by them from the Auckland Centre led Messrs L. A. Tracy and W. F. Ingram to decide to resign from the Council of the New Zealand Amateur Athletic Association as representatives of that centre. They were instructed by the Auckland Centre to nominate Mr J. P. Kalaugher, of Auckland, as president. Mr Tracy says he wrote to Auckland stating that he did not think the delegates should be mere voting machines, but that they should be allowed to weigh up the pros and cons of any matters submitted to the meeting. The reply by night telegram stated that while agreeing with the general principle of not tying the hands of delegates, the Centre insisted on Mr Kalaugher’s nomination and support of him as president.
