SCHOOL COMMITTEE The school committee met in the school on Tuesday. The headmaster’s report stated that the attendance for the last fortnight had been the worst for a long period owing to an outbreak of influenza. Pour pupils had entered in the calf-rearing competition and there was keen interest in the garden plots. It was decided to close the school on November 15 for the Christchurch Show. Mr Brosnahan reported making arrangements for a Timaru party to give a concert at the end of the month to raise funds for the school prize fund. A deputation from the Tennis Club, Messrs Cain and Hughes, waited on the committee in regard to the rent of the courts and the installation of a point for an electric kettle. Permission was given and the rent was fixed at £1 for the season.
