WINCHESTER

PERSONAL Miss M. Andrews, Springland, Blenheim, and Mr F. G. Oldham, Wanganui, are the guests of Mr and Mrs H. Oldham, Winchester. Miss Betty Reid, Temuka, is spending a holiday in Christchurch. Mr A. Mackintosh, of the Union Bank staff at Oamaru, who was spending his holidays at Blenheim, was the guest of Mr and Mrs H. Oldham before returning to Oamaru. RIFLE CLUBS In spite of the wet evening, there was a very large attendance at the annual ball and presentation of trophies of the combined Miniature Rifle Clubs. The joint secretaries, Messrs W. J. Jackson and P. Surridge, had all the arrangements complete, and the function proved a great success. An extra was played by Miss M. Blissett. Mr and Mrs W. Brehaut won the Monte Carlo. Messrs W. J. Jackson and J. Cripps were masters of ceremonies.

Mr L. H. Orbell (president) said he was very pleased to see such a large attendance. There was no doubt that miniature rifle shooting had become one of the most popular indoor sports. In regard to the presentation of trophies, the club must be unique, as every member of both clubs had won trophies. The clubs were very fortunate in having good supporters and donors of prizes. Mr Orbell paid a tribute to the complete harmony that existed between the two clubs and hoped that it would continue. Thanks were due to the secretaries, Messrs P. Surridge and W. J. Jackson, and the coaches of the ladies’ club, Messrs Priddle and Waple. The president then presented the prizes as follows:
