SECOND TRIAL

VERDICT OF GUILTY RETURNED United Press Assoelatlon—By Electric Telegraph—Copyright (Received November 7, 12.85 a.m.) SYDNEY, November 6. The second trial of Thomas Croft and Kenneth O’Connell for the theft of £6OO was concluded to-day. The jury returned a verdict of guilty. Croft was sentenced to four years hard labour and O'Connell to three years hard labour. During the trial at the Quarter Sessions on October 31 of Thomas Croft and Kenneth O'Connell on a charge of conspiring to steal £690 from John Wilson, the jury was peremptorily discharged when it was found that one juryman had a criminal record. Mr Justice Markell said that, while nobody desired to rake up a man’s past, it was impossible to conceive that a man with 15 convictions should be allowed to try other people.
